Holy Shite, it’s the One Year Anniversary of this Blog!

I did it everybody! I wrote about myself once a week for a year! I feel like that should put me in the Narcissists Hall of Fame! Congratulations me! Woo hoo! How many more exclamation marks can I use? Okay, I’ll stop now. But I did think I should mark the occasion, especially since I really wasn’t sure I’d manage to keep it up on a weekly basis. I mean it truly does seem a little narcissistic to write about your own work all the time, but it’s also been a challenge and challenging oneself is a good thing, no? But the truth is, there will have to be changes soon. Maybe to the blog itself, but especially to the website.

Since I have an Instagram business account I happen to know that people occasionally click on my website through the link in my bio. But right now you can’t do much except look at the work, read the blog, read my bio etc. You can’t buy anything though, so it’s pretty much just a showcase and that is something that will have to change. It will mean leaving Artmoi, a company that I was hoping to stay with since they’re local, but you gotta do what ya gotta do. I mean, I still can’t allow comments on this here blog here!

So what will the second year of this blog look like? It’s really hard to tell, because it is getting harder and harder to do this. Might it be that I’ll have to write about things that interest me that are tangential to my art practice? Maybe. If you’ve read my post about the Stupidist Manifesto, you’ll be familiar with the concept of Stupidism and it won’t surprise you that I’ve thought about writing about the concept on this blog and even naming the blog The Stupidist Blog. I’ve also long wanted to do a podcast called the Stupidist Podcast, but let’s face it the podcast ship sailed a long time ago. I mean, I could just do it for fun, but maybe it’s better to put that time into my painting. Anyway, I guess if I were to do either of these things I would probably muse about something stupid that a subset of humans have gotten caught up in–say Qanon–and probably tie that in to my artwork. Hey, now that I think about it I did that last week, so please go read that post if you missed it and you’ll kind of get what I’m saying here.

Ser Brienne of Tarth, 14″ x 18″, oil on canvas, 2021.

Of course, one thing is for sure, I’ll always have new artworks to talk about. Like this hot-off-the-easel painting of Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones! Game of Thrones is great fodder for my pop-culture based paintings and I’ve been planning to get to this fantastic show for a while. Some of you may have seen the paintings I did of Ned Stark and Danaerys Targaryen for my series of human/animal chimeras, but I had yet to do any in my current style. So it was definitely time! What characters would you like to see next? Let me know on Instagram or Facebook!
